Easy shabby vintage gift tag

Easy shabby vintage gift tag tutorial.

Hi! I wanted to share with you how I made this super easy vintage tag. With the right tools you’ll be able to make a large quantity of gift tags for your DIY wedding or party in just a few hours and no one will ever know you made them at home!

To make these tags, I used our printable French garden vintage ATC cards set. This printable set comes with nine different vintage backgrounds measuring 2.5 x 3.5 inches. You will get each background saved in an individual JPEG file, plus one print ready sheet in both JPEG and PDF files with all nine designs together in the same sheet.

I just opened the PDF collage sheet in Adobe Reader and printed it out onto white Neena cardstock. Set your printer to print at best quality and change the paper type settings from default regular copy paper to the type of paper you will use to print the cards. This is very important in order to obtain a good print.

I then proceeded to cut out the tags with my Marvi Uchida Extra Giga Punch Tag, this awesome punch will cut a 2.125 x 3.125 inches tag so it’s perfect for the size of these card backgrounds.

Here you can see a tag already cut, it’s so easy when you have the right tools! You will get nine tags from each printed collage sheet.

Now you will need to punch a hole on the very top part of the card so that you can add a ribbon later. As you can see I just used a cheap one hole punch, if the tool is sharp enough it’ll work just fine, however if you used thicker cardstock or if you have a whole laundry pile of tags to make you might want to use a good quality punch so that it does not break the tag. Experience is talking here…

Finally I threaded a matching satin ribbon through the hole and glued a fabric rose from Prima Marketing that I had in my stock. I was not able to find a website selling the exact same flowers I used here, but you can find an amazing assortment of similar floral embellishments at Scrapbook.com or any other scrapbooking store or even at the dollar store. I also added a self adhesive heart shaped pearl embellishment also from Prima Marketing.

And here is the final result, super easy vintage tag in flash!

You make my heart smile: the easiest card you’ll ever make!

YOU MAKE MY HEART SMILE HANDMADE CARD

Here is how I made this handmade card:

  • Resizing: the digital stamps measure about 6 inches at the widest or tallest point, so if you are going to use them on a handmade card, you will need to load them in Photoshop or Paint shop pro and resize them to a smaller size, in this case I resized the card to a little bit less than 3 inches.
  • Writing the sentiment: while I was working in Photoshop I also wrote the sentiment “you make my heart smile” at the bottom of the resized image. The font I used is one of my favorite fonts and it’s called Pacifico.
  • Printing: I flattened the image, saved the file with a new name (very important!) and printed out the digital stamp and the sentiment on white Neenah 110 lb cardstock.
  • Cutting the stamp and sentiments: I could’ve cut the stamp very accurately with my Silhouette Cameo and the PixScan mat, but because it was only one image I decided to just fuzzy-cut it with a small scissor, you can see it’s not a perfect cut, but it is good enough and It didn’t take long at all! If you have a lot of stamps to cut, then yes, it would be better to use the Cameo to save time.
  • Coloring: I decided to go with a colored background so that’s why I used the stamp in black and white, however if you are using a white background you can use Watercolors or Copic Markers to color in the stamp and make it stand out.
  • Cutting the backgrounds: to cut the yellow cardstock circle I used my old Cuttlebug and the Sizzix Framelits die set, and for the squares I used the Sizzix Framelites squares. I also wanted to add a sort of frame or mat but I didn’t have a die larger that the one I used to cut the orange square, so I just placed the card on a piece of yellow cardstock and trimmed to fit the card.
  • Assembling the card: to give a fun 3D effect, I mounted everything using double sided foam tape.

I hope you’ll find this post helpful!

Happy crafting!!
